Cycle World magazine awarded the Ten Best bikes of 2006 at an exclusive dinner and awards ceremony in Costa Mesa, Calif. It was the 31st year for this event, and Editor-in-Chief, David Edwards, noted that over the years 311 bikes had been honored with this distinction.

A look at past winners is like surfing through motorcycling's history. Some marques are gone - Montesa and Maico in 1976 - but most of them have continually been building motorcycles. Bike class has also transformed. Who can forget "light-weight roadster"? This year's honorees include motorcycles from eight manufacturers and five different countries.
