THEOLOGIAN GEORGE STROUP laments that Christian life has become indistinguishable from other forms of life in the United States. The problem is not the loss of belief in God. Rather, Christians no longer understand their daily lives as lived "before God." They eat dinner, enjoy a sunrise, read the newspaper, disagree with their partner, and spend money with a sense that all is played out not before God, but only before themselves, or before certain groups of persons whose opinions are valued.
