ARMY First Lt. Lawrence San Juan on Friday turned his back on his rebellious comrades and proclaimed his allegiance to the government.

Reading from a prepared statement in Pilipino, San Juan announced at a press briefing in Fort Bonifacio he was breaking away from the Magdaló and the Makabayang Kawal Pilipino (MKP), two groups involved in plots to overthrow the Arroyo administration.

"I reaffirm my allegiance to the Constitution and the Armed Forces of the Philippines," San Juan said.

Rumors had surfaced in past weeks that San Juan, who belongs to the elite Light Reaction Company (LRC), had broken off from the Magdaló.
