Today, Rep. Payne voted to reauthorize the landmark Voting Rights Act, citing the need to ensure the right to vote is fully protected. The Fannie Lou Hamer, Rosa Parks, and Coretta Scott King Voting Rights Act Reauthorization and Amendments Act of 2006 reauthorizes for 25 years the Voting Rights Act, which was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on August 6, 1965.
