Born in Oxnard, California, Buche moved to Longmont at the age of 12. She attended St. John's Catholic School in Longmont her 8th grade year then commuted to St. Mary's Academy in Denver during her high school years. She graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1996, majoring in sociology. After graduation Buche traveled to Quito, Ecuador teaching art, health, and English at the Working Boys Center to inner city children and adults for a year. She returned to Colorado and became a nanny for six months then pursued a Master's degree in education at the University of Denver.
