Cllint Mathis scored his first goal of the year as the Colorado Rapids defeated the Kansas City Wizards 1-0 in a late game clincher last Saturday, July 8, at Invesco Field at Mile High. With the result, the Rapids have added two consecutive wins in five days.

The Rapids had the first scoring chance of the game in the sixth minute. Dedi Ben-Dayan played a ball from the left all the way to a streaking Terry Cooke whose header forced Bo Oshoniyi to tip the ball over the crossbar.

Joe Cannon kept the game scoreless as Kansas City came on the counter attack in the 24th minute. Alex Zotinca broke free on the left and his near post attempt was thwarted by Cannon.
