Article: BJD protests disfiguring of Biju Patnaik's statue

Bhubaneswar, July 31 -- Hundreds of activists of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Monday launched a protest in Orissa against the disfiguring of a statue of former chief minister Biju Patnaik in Jagatsinghpur district by some miscreants.

The life-size, plaster-of-Paris statue of the late leader had been unveiled on Friday by his son, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, at Raghunathpur, about 50 km from here.

While police have arrested at least 10 people who allegedly dismembered the head from the body in a drunken state, BJD workers protested the incident staging demonstrations and obstructing roads.

Those arrested are Congress activists, a district police official said.
