WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 -- Rep. Ben Cardin, D-Maryland, has introduced the American Energy Independence Act (H.R. 5927), legislation that would "provide energy independence to Americans, to increase the efficiency and decrease the environmental impact of America's energy policy, to increase America's research and development in energy, and to encourage the development and use of renewable forms of energy."
The bill, introduced on July 27, was referred to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, House Ways and Means Committee, House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, House Government Reform Committee and House Science Committee.
