NEW DELHI, India, Aug 3 -- THE DEMAND for a dress code in degree colleges has kicked up a debate in the city. The teachers and the students reacted equally to this issue. However, the main controversy is: Whether the dress code is meant only for girls.

Talking about the issue, some colleges said, "India is a secular country and every citizen has the freedom to dress oneself. So the students should have the freedom to dress themselves."

Ashok Kumar, principal of PPN degree College, said, "We do no think dress code is something very good, but the students should be sensible enough to wear decent clothes. This is a college and students come here to study. Thus, they should maintain the decorum ...
