The University of North Texas issued the following news release:
It's 2 a.m. You're awake again and unable to relax and go to sleep, even though your bedroom is quiet and cool, your bed is comfortable and your partner is sleeping peacefully. As you toss and turn and watch your bedside clock, you wonder how you'll be able to get through another day of commuting, working and household chores on only a small number of hours of sleep.
Take heart. "Catastrophic thinking" that the next day will be a disaster if you don't get at least eight hours of sleep will only contribute to chronic insomnia, said a University of North Texas psychologist and expert in sleep disorders.
