New Delhi, Aug 9 -- The Indian Army has resumed recruiting Nepali Gurkhas after a two-year hiatus and around 10,000 youths turned up for a just-concluded camp at Bhatal in Nepal, just near the Indian border.
India had stopped recruiting Nepali Gurkhas apparently because of growing Maoist activities in that country, but more from the angle of putting pressure on King Gyanendra to restore democracy.
Some 50 to 60 men were selected at the Bhatal camp, just across the border from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.
More such camps are to be conducted in the coming days and the Indian Army soon hopes to return to its annual intake of 3,000 Nepali Gurkhas every year, an army officer here said.
