PHILADELPHIA - Aaron Rowand arrived at Citizens Bank Park on Monday sporting two black eyes, lacerations from two facial fractures and a splint on a broken nose from his face-first crash into the center field fence while making a spectacular catch last Thursday.
Rowand's catch of the New York Mets' Xavier Nady's long drive, in the first inning with the bases loaded and two outs and Gavin Floyd on the mound, saved three runs and sent the streaking, red-hot Phillies to a 2-0 victory over the Mets in a rain-shortened game.
The Catch no doubt elevated him to folk hero status in the eyes of the blue-collar Philadelphia fans, who applaud such heroic effort and save their worst booing for ...
