Article: 80 pc schools sans fire safety measures

NEW DELHI, India, April 13 -- WITH THE Fire Safety and Service Week starting on April 14, the Fire Department is once again seized of the fact that 80 per cent of schools in Indore are unsafe when it comes to fire safety measures installed in the schools.

And this involves not only the small run of the mill schools, but also some of the big names in the school business.

This startling discovery was made by the Indore Police Fire Brigade and district administration when they launched an inspection of all the schools of Indore in September-October last year.

The inspection was prompted by the July 16 school fire in Kumbakonam in which 92 small children died in a tragic fire.
