For general managers around the NFL, the words "Houston Texans" are so frightening they could be used interchangeably with the interjection "boo!" The mere mention of the expansion team causes complexions to go from healthy to ashen; expressions from confident to helpless; pants from dry to wet.

Player agents, meanwhile, daydream of the Texans and plot their early retirements. Free agents-to-be all around the country have been fitted for ostrich-skin boots.

But as the free agent signing period nears, I can tell you the Texans are not going to be the free-agent vacuum that opponents feared and players hoped for. Outside of maybe two major signings, the Texans have no plans to pull America ...
