Article: UNITED KINGDOM: HMS CHATHAM VISITS LAND OF PENGUIN

The government of United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence's Royal Navy issued the following news release:

HMS Chatham, currently deployed as the South Atlantic patrol ship, has achieved two career firsts - sailing the furthest south and crossing the Atlantic.

Chatham, which normally conducts patrols in Middle Eastern or European waters, has completed a visit to Montevideo in Uruguay, the first time the ship has crossed the Atlantic, albeit not by the most direct route. She then continued heading south and, after a brief stop in the Falklands, headed further south to patrol the area around the remote island of South Georgia (latitude 54 south), the most southerly latitudes in her career so far.
