Article: Big employers get bigger, by 4,000

Against a backdrop of high-profile mergers and acquisitions, the largest private-sector employers in Orange County have kept pace with the county economy as a whole in creating jobs during the past year.

OC's 50 largest employers, which include some of the nation's biggest corporations, employ 150,920 people locally, according to this week's Business Journal list. That is up 2.7%, or by 4,012 jobs, at the OC operations of those same companies compared with a year ago.

By comparison, the county economy as a whole has been growing jobs at a 2.5% rate, a five-year high, according to state figures. Countywide, there were 2,000 more jobs in October than a year ago.
