The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets issued the following news release:

Gov. George E. Pataki today officially opened the 160th Annual Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, Onondaga County, and encouraged people to visit the fair to enjoy thousands of exhibits, rides, food vendors, and world-class entertainers.

The State Fair offers a variety of events over a 12-day period from Thursday, August 24, 2006 through Monday, September 4, 2006. The theme of this year's Fair is "Just like you remember...and then some!"
