In the past 10 to 15 years, there have been tremendous changes in banking. A trend toward acquisition and consolidation has created new big banks and has fostered the development of regional and superregional financial institutions.
The creation of superregional banks changed the whole marketing spectrum for all banks, including community banks with assets in the $25 million to $250 million range. The question for community banks remains how they will react to this change, and whether they will survive or prosper.
