Article: HOUSE TO START PROBE INTO TEXTBOOK ANOMALY ALLEGED 'IMPROPER INTERVENTION' OF WORLD BANK HIT

The House Committee on Good Government will start soon its inquiry into the alleged "improper intervention" by the World Bank and other international funding organizations in the bidding of 17.5 million textbooks and teachers' manuals for various subjects in public primary and secondary schools.

The committee chairman, Rep. Arthur Defensor of Iloilo, said, however, his panel has no idea yet as to who among the officials of the Department of Education and the Department of Budget and Management would be summoned to the congressional probe, which is authorized by House Resolution 1289 filed by Rep. Prospero Pichay of Surigao.
