The beginnings of the relationship between Jews and Christians have "both historical and topical importance" (p. xvii); the study of what happened must be completed by an attempt to answer why the relations developed as they did. This study develops out of Dr. Sanders's essays on the Lucan tradition, culminating in he Jews in Luke-Acts (Philadelphia: Fortress, 1987).
