Derek Jarman and Lyric Film: The Mirror and the Sea

IN HIS BOOK DEREK JARMAN and Lyric Film, Steven Dillon, a Professor of English at Bates College in Maine, examines Derek Jarman's eleven feature films within the context of poetry and the tradition of lyric film. In addition, the author brings into his discussion Jarman's own poetry and writing, including a published book of poems, journals, and unproduced screenplays. Dillon aligns Jarman with Pasolini, Cocteau, and Tarkovsky, filmmakers he believes make up the pantheon of the lyric cinema tradition.
