The word is emblazoned across every sign, bumper sticker and ad for Atlantic County Crime Stoppers. But how anonymous are callers who decide to report a tip?

Even Kevin Walsh, who coordinates the tips, doesn't know who they are - and that's the way he likes it.

"I always tell callers, if they want to tell someone, that's on them," he said.

In his 18 years on the job, Walsh said about 10 tipsters have given up their anonymity and were even willing to testify. "But that was something of their choosing," he stressed.

Walsh won't even reveal where the dispatch center is or who it is manned by. He will say that there are at least three operators at all times.
