Chief Petty Officer (CPO) selectees aboard USS Essex (LHD 2) visited the Tenshin-Ryo Children's Home Aug. 25, spending some quality time with the children.

The children's home takes care of 70 children of various ages. The children's home staff feels any extra attention they receive is a special time for them.

"What can we do for the children to make their lives better and brighten each one of their days while they are here? It's a question we put to ourselves on a continuous basis," said Akira Hiyamizu, a children's home administrator. "We've had ...
