Article: African-American College Students Are Less Likely Than White College Students to Hold a Paying Job While Enrolled in College

The conventional wisdom suggests that because African-American college students are more likely than white students to come from low-income families, they would be more likely than whites to have paid employment while in college. But white college students hold a job more often than African-American students.

New data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that 56.7 percent of all white college students hold jobs while attending school. Only 44.2 percent of AfricanAmerican college students are employed during the school year.
