Gang activity in South Carolina is spilling over into the state's rural counties, mirroring a national trend, according to a survey of law enforcement agencies conducted by a team of University of South Carolina researchers.

Drs. Jeff Rojek, Michael Smith and Robert Kaminski in the University of South Carolina's department of criminology and criminal justice, in partnership with the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy, administered the survey, gathering responses from 174 local law enforcement agencies in South Carolina about gang activity in the Palmetto state.
