Article: Rafter No. 500,000 Marks Industry Success

When the 500,000th customer rafted down the New and Gauley rivers Sept. 29 with Class VI River Runners, Inc., it marked tangible proof that three college grads knew what they were doing when they started a rafting business.

Commissioner Betty Carver randomly selected Jeff Lindsay of Sylva, N.C., to represent the 500,000th rafter out of a group from Sysco Food Services on their annual management retreat.

Lindsay received a fanfare from the West Virginia Institute of Technology's brass band and won lifetime rafting privileges, dinner at Smokey's On the Gorge and a $200 shopping trip at the company's store.
