The New York Department of State issued the following news release:
Secretary of State Christopher L. Jacobs and State Fire Administrator James A. Burns today announced that Governor George E. Pataki has issued a proclamation designating September as Campus Fire Safety Month.
According to the Center for Campus Fire Safety, since January 2000, at least 88 people nationwide including students, parents and children have died in student housing fires and that three-fourths of these deaths occurred in off-campus buildings which house a majority of college students.
