Article: United Church has not lost its way

IN a column on these pages last Thursday, Harold Jantz offered an extended reflection on the positive nature of Christian evangelicals, which is, of course, fair enough, especially in the light of Franklin Graham's current Winnipeg Mission.

But to uphold an "evangelical" position by branding the United Church of Canada -- and by implication other historic denominations of the Reformation -- as having abandoned Christian faith and having lost the essence of "what the church is really about" is beyond the bounds of reason, good taste and Christian charity.

I will acknowledge that Jantz got one thing right: Jesus is most definitely not a dirty word. Jesus is Lord.
