Article: Japanese Inventors Develop Helmet with Speaker System

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 8 -- Hajime Tabata and Mutsumi Katayama, both of Saitama, Japan, have developed a helmet with built-in speaker system and a speaker system for helmet.

According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A speaker system is installed in a helmet, and includes a pair of piezoelectric speakers, frames supporting the speakers around the peripheral edges thereof, and laminated films for protecting the piezoelectric film speakers."

An abstract of the invention, released by the Patent Office, said: "Each of the frames has its longer sides curved with a radius of curvature of 210 milimeter (mm) to 360 mm in order to support the piezoelectric film speakers in a curved state ...
