Article: Time to sign up for Medicare Part D prescription plan

People 65 and older, and those with certain disabilities, will get information soon to sign up for a 2007 Medicare prescription drug plan.

Last year the federal government offered the first nationwide prescription drug coverage, part of the biggest change in the federal health care program in 40 years. Seniors who chose a Medicare Part D drug plan must decide whether they want to stay with their plan or switch plans for next year.

People must sign up between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31, and they have to renew or make a new choice every year, said Tina Johnson, elderly benefit specialist with the La Crosse County Aging Unit.
