Washington, Nov 17 -- A team of researchers have found that that dark energy, a mysterious repulsive force that makes the universe expand at an ever faster rate, has been present in the universe for most of its 13 billion year history.

Adam Riess, a professor of physics and astronomy at Johns Hopkins University and his team used NASA's Hubble Space Telescope to find that dark energy was already accelerating the expansion of the universe at least as long as nine billion years ago.
