Article: STUDY EVALUATES CANCER INCIDENCE IN COZAD

The Nebraska Health and Human Services System issued the following news release:

A study conducted by the Nebraska Health and Human Services System (HHSS) of cancer incidence in Cozad and the area around it has found it has a similar number of cases per population as in the rest of the state and the country.

"What that means is that the number of cancer cases is not more than what you would expect for a population of Cozad's size," said Dr. Tom Safranek, state epidemiologist.

The study showed that the cancer incidence rate in Cozad is slightly lower than the state and the nation. The average annual incidence rate for cases of cancer between 1999 and 2003 in Cozad and the area was 467 per ...
