The U.S. Department of Energy's Berkeley National Laboratory issued the following press release:

Gudmundur "Bo" Bodvarsson, a hydrogeologist with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) since 1980, and director of the Laboratory's Earth Sciences Division since 2001, passed away on November 29, 2006, at Kaiser Oakland Hospital. He was 54. "We are all saddened by the untimely loss of Bo Bodvarsson," said Berkeley Lab Director Steven Chu.
