About 16 years ago, I visited the offices of a sole practitioner in midtown Manhattan to see how he was using a microcomputer system in his own practice. I remember this visit because it served as a significant turning point in my career. During the visit I saw how a practitioner close to retirement had overcome his own apprehensions with computers and instead, with patience and fortitude, had taught himself different software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, accounting, and taxation.
