Oh, what a difference a word makes! The article title uses the word adherence with its connotation of going with the flow. For many reasons-some historical, others misguided-loss control is enamored with the word compliance, with its authoritarian implication of following the rules. Adherence seems to embrace rational engagement whereas compliance is a reluctant response to authority.
