Article: Indian Army unit for UN peacekeeping role in Lebanon

New Delhi, Dec 8 -- A highly decorated Indian Army battalion leaves here next week for Lebanon on UN peacekeeping duties to replace another Indian unit that had performed extremely well there in the recent conflict between the Hezbollah and Israel.

The 15th battalion of the Punjab Regiment will replace 4 Sikh, which will be returning home.

Addressing the 800 personnel here Friday, the Indian Army deputy chief, Lt. Gen. Susheel Gupta, reminded them that they would be serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFL) under a Chapter VI mandate of the world body, which implies that the emphasis would be on observation and reporting of violations of the ceasefire between Lebanon ...
