The University of Central Florida, a component of the Florida state university system, issued the following news release:
University of Central Florida sophomore Heather Blackman is getting ready to go home just in time for Hanukkah, which begins Friday, Dec. 15.
"I love Hanukkah," she said. "I think it tends to get over-sensationalized because of its proximity to Christmas, but that's OK. We're still celebrating a miracle."
Blackman is one of about 4,500 UCF students - about 10 percent of the university's total enrollment - who are Jewish. She's minoring in Judiac Studies, a program that, along with the local Hillel organization, is thriving.
