It's often an overlooked fact, hut many of the injuries and accidents that occur in the printing industry occur within the binding and finishing department. And, as with any other production staff, bindery employee's performing their daily tasks need to be aware of the risks and hazards when working with and around materials and equipment.

The main issues to address when approaching safety in the bindery are the same as with most other areas within the printing plant regarding safety compliance efforts. This includes performing a lia/ard assessment, equipment review, establishing standard operating procedures, conducting employee training, and performing regular safety inspections.
