Pennsylvania State University at New Kensington issued the following news release:
Forsythia bushes and daffodils, the first spring flowers along the Penn State New Kensington Nature Trail, are blooming this week. Neither species is "natural" to our area (daffodils are native to Europe and forsythia are native to Asia) but both have escaped from yards and gardens and add to the colorful start of spring throughout the trail.
The Spice bush, a native shrub which is quite abundant along the Nature Trail, is beginning to flower. Its delicate, yellow flowers emerge several weeks before its leaves. And the Spring Peepers are at it again. That rolling, peeping noise at night is the mating chorus ...
