For years, enthusiasts have touted the health benefits of yoga. Not only is it a low-impact form of exercise, it increases balance and strength, reduces stress and provides an overall sense of well-being.
Now that yoga is at an all-time high in popularity, the medical world is beginning to catch on. Some doctors are even starting to use yoga as part of their treatment plans. The practice of applying yoga techniques to a disease or chronic condition is called yoga therapy.
