Clark County issued the following press release:
Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive, will salute the films of Sidney Poitier during African American Movie Month in February. All films begin at 7 p.m. in the Winchester Cultural Center Theater and admission is free.
The series begins Feb. 2 with "The Defiant Ones," which was originally released in 1958. Poitier stars as one of two convicts - one black, one white - who elude capture while handcuffed together. Co-star Tony Curtis was nominated for an Academy Award for his role.
The second film, "A Raisin in the Sun," released in 1961, will be viewed Feb. 16. The film tells the story of Walter Lee Younger (Poitier), ...
