Talk about growth in Lancaster County these days, and you are likely to stir some emotions - and debates. Those who have proposed significant residential or commercial development have encountered opposition, even when planners and local officials welcomed the plans.
For example, there has been opposition to a new Route 23 through the fertile farmlands of eastern Lancaster County and a strong battle against Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s efforts to put one of its superstores on South Centerville Road in Manor Township.
