Article: Portuguese President in India on week-long visit

New Delhi, Jan 10 -- Portuguese President Dr. Anibal Cavaco Silva will arrive here this afternoon on a week-long visit aimed primarily at strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.

Sixty-seven year old Silva, who arrives at 3.00 pm today, will be accorded a ceremonial reception at 10.00 a.m. tomorrow, after which he will lay a wreath at Rajghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi.

Silva, who took over as Portuguese President in 2005, will hold talks with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on January 11, and will sign a bilateral extradition treaty.
