Article: LOS ANGELES/LONG BEACH WORTHY OF EFFORT TO BRING 2016 OLYMPIC GAMES TO UNITED STATES, ORGANIZING COMMITTEE CONCLUDES

The city of Long Beach issued the following news release:

The United States Olympic Organizing committee (USOC) has concluded that Los Angeles is one of two American cities that are qualified to compete internationally for the honor of hosting the 2016 Olympic Games, and will formally select and nominate the United States Applicant City to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) later this year.

If Los Angeles were selected to host the Games, several events would be held in Long Beach, including swimming, sailing and rowing. The other U.S. city vying to host the 2016 Olympic Games is Chicago.
