Article: Study: Reforms helping parolees succeed after they leave prison

A recent study by the state Parole Board shows that more parolees are going on to live law-abiding lives than in previous years, and more than those who do not have parole supervision when they get out of prison.

"This is excellent news for New Jersey and the state Parole Board," Chairman John D'Amico said. "This study confirms that parole does have a substantially positive effect on ex-prisoners returning to society."

The study looked at parolees after reforms to the program that emphasize addressing the underlying causes of parole failure. After the reforms, parolees are succeeding in society at a much higher rate then just a few years ago, D'Amico said.
