VFW program offers monetary assistance to help families rebound from financial hardships.

When Corey Miller returned to Fort Hood, Texas, in 2003 after serving six months in Iraq, he was unable to work due to severe wounds on his feet. A specialist with the medical processing company of Special Troops Bn., 1st Cav Div., Corey knew that his military income alone wouldn't provide for a family of five.

In an effort to make ends meet, his wife, Christy, began working a full-time job, while her mother moved into the Miller's home to help care for their three young children.

But Christy's mother died last fall. Without anyone to care for the children during the day, Christy had to quit her job.
