MARK CHIPMAN was there. So was David Asper. And then there were the words, 'NHL' and 'Winnipeg' tumbling out of the mouth of the commissioner himself, Gary Bettman. So it's time to get frothy about the possibility of the NHL's return to Winnipeg, right?
In a word, no.
Despite the recent furor over the mentions of our city and the NHL at this week's all-star festivities in Dallas, Winnipeg remains a long way from greeting the return of NHL hockey.
There remains hope in this city of the NHL some day coming back and that's fine, but it's foolish and perhaps counterproductive to leap to conclusions.
And before you begin hammering out an e-mail calling me a naysayer, understand ...
