Kathmandu, Jan 26 -- They helped keep peace and order in strife-hit states of India and now former soldiers of the Indian Army are chipping in to boost the ongoing peace negotiations in neighbouring Nepal.
An Interim Task Force (ITF) of Indian Army veterans has begun the task of assisting the UN to keep watch over Maoist arms and combatants in seven camps outside the capital to ensure the rebels do not break their peace pact and take up their guns again.
Since red tape held back the UN from sending a large contingent immediately, both Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Maoist supremo Prachanda agreed to appoint a team of 111 former soldiers to speed up the arms management process.
