NEW DELHI, India, Jan 29 -- Morality is the backbone of Indian legal system and adherence to ethics and morality give more efficacy to law, said Supreme Court judge Justice PKI Balasubramanyan.
Justice Balasubramanyan was addressing a seminar on "Impact of ethics and morality in law and justice'', organised by Sapru Law Institute at the Judges' Guesthouse here on Monday.
The apex court judge said law coupled with morality gave humanistic approach to law. "A law which does not have root in morality is certainly a poor law," he said.
"We require a society which practise dharma," he said adding that that the Indian Constitution envisaged a society backed by morality.
