London, Jan 31 -- A British archaeological team has discovered the remnants of a large housing settlement dating back to 2600 BC near the ancient stone monument of Stonehenge in southwest England.

Mike Parker Pearson, professor of archaeology at the Sheffield University, UK, said the inhabitants, probably forming the largest Neolithic village ever found in Britain, possibly built the stone circle at Stonehenge between 3000 and 1600 BC.
